8 Sustainable Interior Décor Home Goods from Etsy (Small Business Spotlight)
Etsy shops are a great way to collect awesome pieces of interior décor while still supporting small business, which is why we’ve rounded up eight sustainable home goods from eight different sellers just for you.
The items we’ve chosen are only a taste of what the virtual storefronts have to offer, so be sure to take a moment and see what else they have available. From whimsical, to quirky, to modern, each find is undoubtedly useful, as well as sustainable, and a purchase you can feel good about making.
Check out our top eight interior décor items below – we dare you not to be inspired by the time you’re through!
1. Herb Garden Markers
These little recycled treasures from The Spoon Flower are perfect for the cook who loves to use fresh herbs and likes weathered, vintage, and personal touches. The herb names have been hand stamped onto a flattened vintage teaspoon that then acts as a pot identification marker. The shop recommends completing your purchase with the addition of a Grow Note, or a thin card that is made from recycled paper and embedded with plants seeds. Tear up the note and add it to your pot with soil and water and watch it grow.
2. Cardboard Ettore Chair
If you’re into the quirkier side of furniture and décor, then Flatgoods is bound to have some items you won’t find boring, although the long-term integrity of the pieces is somewhat questionable. Truly a conversation starter, the chair pictured above, along with all of the shop’s items, is made entirely of heavyweight cardboard. If you need some temporary furniture, or feel that you can preserve your purchase by avoiding spills, moisture, children, pets, and messy relatives, then you’ll want to give this recyclable interior décor a chance.
3. Upcycled Paper Bunting
Yes, it’s simple, and yes, it’s totally DIY-able, but if you’re into really sweet interior décor touches that you don’t have to worry about making yourself, then check out the Peony and Thistle shop on Etsy. Botanical-inspired paper pennants and bunting handmade from vintage flower books make up a large portion of the inventory, and the recycled mini bunting pictured above is an example of the one-of-a-kind items this shop sells.
4. Wine Barrel Ring Chandelier
Recycled chandeliers aren’t a new concept, but the handcrafted light pictured above from Wine Country Craftsman sure is beautiful, and it’s sold at an excellent price point, too. The sizes of the chandelier range from 20 inches to 28 inches, they come with three Edison bulbs for lots of light, and they’re all handmade from recycled wine barrel rings. This would be a great addition to an industrial modern pad.
5. Modular Bookshelf
This minimalist handmade shelf from DLdesignworks is expertly crafted from the sustainable and eco-friendly variety of black and zebra wood. The exotic floating storage unit is completed with a silky tung oil finish, which is well known among woodworking enthusiasts as an environmentally safe, healthy, and durable coating so long as it contains no other contaminates. This is a beautiful piece of sleek décor that would look great in every modern home.
6. Reclaimed Starburst Mirror
The starburst beauty pictured above from Woodenaht offers a slice of shabby chic beach house décor for the sustainable interior enthusiast. The shop owner creates this, and all of her mirrors, from reclaimed wood. For this particular piece, she used orange, yellow, and teal as the main colors, with streaks of pink and blue, finishing the edges with mint green. This pastel paradise would look great over a small foyer table.
7. Driftwood Coasters
A slice of sustainable, these oil-finished driftwood coasters from Studio Robazzo would make a great housewarming gift for a friend or yourself! Straightforward and simple, yet stylish, the set of 4, 6, 8, or 12 coasters is stacked in such a way that it recreates the original shape of the salvaged driftwood log from which they were cut. The coasters can be ordered in bulk (think: wedding décor or favors) and can be personalized with laser engraving.
8. Recycled Bottle Glasses
Now that you have coasters, you’re going to need some new drinking glasses, amirite? The upcycled tumblers pictured above from Twice Drunk were once Sauvignon Blanc wine bottles. Although this technique isn’t especially innovative, these look very well crafted and the color is just gorgeous. These would look lovely mixed with pinks and yellows for a beautifully set outdoor dinner party table.
