11 Best Romantic Movies to Stream on Valentine’s Day
Romantic movies to enjoy with your sig-o on Valentine’s Day.
To me, staying home and watching romantic movies on Valentine’s Day is so much better than going to some fancy restaurant (“Do I really have to use all of these forks?”). For one thing, you don’t have to wear pants. For another, if you want to pounce on your guy at any point during the evening, you can do so whenever you want – and it’ll be easy to do since you’re not wearing pants.
Here are 11 romantic movies to enjoy on Valentine’s Day – or not, wink wink:
This classic story of doomed love starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman is the foundation with which all romantic movies have been built on. Trust.
2. “Romeo + Juliet”
We may have loved him on “Growing Pains” and in “The Basketball Diaries,” but this movie is where our obsession with Leonardo DiCaprio really latched on to our ovaries. And even though we all know how it ends, we still pathetically hope an alternate ending will magically appear.
After being murdered in a robbery-gone-wrong, Sam (played by the one and only Patrick Swayze) comes back as a ghost to warn the love of his life Molly (played by Demi Moore) that her life is in danger. Swoon.
4. “Ever After”
This flick is one of my favorite fairy tale reinventions: Drew Barrymore and Dougray Scott give steamy, romantic performances in this Cinderella story with a feminist twist.
Okay, the way Will Smith’s character Alex professes his love to Eva Mendes’ Sara makes me throw up a little, but Kevin James is so adorable as Albert, and for me it’s his relationship with Allegra that steals the show.
6. “An Affair to Remember”
It stars Cary Grant, need I say more? Okay fine: Nickie Ferrante and Terry McKay start a hot and steamy relationship while taking a cruise… even though they’re both engaged to other people. Just watch it.
7. “Sleepless in Seattle”
The rom-com that every other rom-com will never live up to, Meg Ryan’s character Annie falls in love with Tom Hanks’ Sam after listening to him on the radio. And in true “An Affair to Remember” fashion, they meet on top of the Empire State Building on Valentine’s Day. Pass the Kleenex.
8. “Silver Linings Playbook”
J-Law’s character Tiffany strikes a deal with Bradley Cooper’s Pat: She’ll help him win his wife back if he helps her win a dance contest. It’s one of those romantic movies that puts you at ease about your emotional baggage and makes you appreciate the quirks that belong to the people you love.
9. “Dirty Dancing”
Based in the early ’60s, Frances “Baby” Houseman falls in love with badass dance instructor Johnny Castle during a vacation at a fancy shmancy resort with her parents. The final dance sequence gets me every time, sniffles.
10. “When Harry Met Sally”
College grads Harry Burns and Sally Albright share a ride from Chicago to New York, where they argue about whether men and women can ever really be “just friends.” Ten years later, they meet again at a bookstore and attempt to stay friends without sex becoming an issue. Pffft, right.
11. “Valentine’s Day”
What romantic movies roundup would be complete without “Valentine’s Day”? Starring an incredible ensemble cast including Bradley Cooper, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner, not to mention McDreamy and McSteamy, it involves a series of interconnected stories as the characters wade through the highs and lows of love on Valentine’s Day.
